Per capita, Hong Kong is among the world’s top producers of plastic waste.
According to Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Dept’s 2020 Monitoring of Solid Waste in Hong Kong, 2,312 tonnes/day, equal to 843,880 tonnes/year, of plastic were sent to our landfills and only 102,000 tonnes were recovered for recycling that year.
